The Way It's Meant To Be
Suitable for Years 4 - 6
The Way It's Meant to Be is the name of the latest addition to our project range. Using the principle of time travel, it uses the well known Noah story to help children and young people question the value of love and relationships. In our multi-cultural world, the project gives children from all backgrounds an opportunity to compare the traditions of arranged and love marriage. For those who have been damaged by family conflict and breakdown, the musical will provide a platform for discussion and questioning and an opportunity to see how Debbie, the central character is challenged to look at how her own experience has shaped her attitude and views on love and life. Containing nine fabulous new songs the musical explores the following issues;
Too Close for Comfort
'Bad attitude'! This first session introduces the students to the concept of ever entering into a lifetime commitment. What might that look like? How would it feel? What would be the point?
I Promise You;
Marriage ceremonies are full of symbolism and have in common the giving and receiving of vows and promises. Are they unrealistic? Can they be kept!
Tears in the Darkness;
All families fall out from time to time and as the story unfolds, Debbie finds herself an unseen visitor in the family of Noah's eldest son Japeth. She sees for herself that violent arguments and shouting are not confined to this generation or her own family.
Whatever it Takes;
This is a session for those who believe that the freedom to choose is the best way. For Debbie however she learns that falling in love carries responsibilities as well. Noah's youngest son had fallen in love with Ruth, the girl next door, but in their world , falling in love is a serious business!
Father Free Me;
This session explores the consequences of people's behavior and uses the story of the flood to question whether, if there really is a God then maybe, might it be our fault and not his that the world is coming to an end!
The Way It's Meant to Be;
This gentle session introduces the students to the concept of becoming one with your life partner. It's aim is to help students to understand how hard it is to achieve that aim when there are unspoken and unresolved hurts with parents.
Maybe it's time to Say Goodbye;
The difference between the sexes! A fun session which explores some of the different expectations that the different genders have of each other.
Love Never Fails;
It's time for Debbie to go back to her own world and to put some things right. She has learned that in order to move on and to get the most from her own life she needs to put things right with her Mom and Darren.
Destined to Be;
This final session explores what love really is and how real love is shown through our respect for ourselves and those around us.
