"I first encountered Malachi about 6 years ago when a mother I was working with
insisted I go and meet Gordon and Lyn and see for myself the kind of work they were
doing with families like hers. It was clear to me that without the input she and
her children had received over about 5 years, she wouldn’t have had the courage
to get a referral to come and see a professional like me to get help with managing
her son’s behaviour.
Our service can seem daunting and difficult to get access to so many families in
great need never reach us. I discovered Malachi were doing a fantastic job engaging
and working with such underserved families.
Part of the effectiveness in engagement seems to be because the workers are readily
available in the everyday environments of children and their parents (such as schools)
and because they use issue-based musicals and classroom-based exploration of the
emotional and relationship side of life to make connections with all the children
in the class (and through them, their parents) rather than just focusing on those
someone has identified as struggling."
